Drawaoke: Sing, Scribble, Showdown! Privacy Policy
This policy explains how 2P START ("we" or "us") handles information in Drawaoke: Sing, Scribble, Showdown! ("the game").
1. The big picture — where the game's information goes
- Inside your device (your Album, your Draw-Along Collection, your settings, and so on. None of this is sent to us → Section 2)
- Inside Steam's systems (Valve Corporation) (the connection to the people you play with, room information, and the cloud save of your Draw-Along Collection. None of this passes through our servers → Sections 2 and 3)
- Sending feedback (this reaches us only when you write something in the feedback box. If the box closes while something is still written in it, what you wrote also reaches us → Section 4)
- Counting plays for each prompt (the thing you are asked to draw) (each time you play a song, the prompt you played and the kind of button you pressed reach us, and they are added up as total counts for each prompt. We use this to adjust how hard each prompt is → Section 4-2)
- Checking for the latest version and for news (the game only asks our service a question. It sends no information as content → Section 4-3)
- The bug report form (this is a Google form. You decide whether to send it → Section 4-4)
What reaches us through feedback, the per-prompt counts, and the latest-version check (Sections 4 to 4-3) does not include your name, email address, home address, phone number, Steam account name or Steam account ID, or anything that identifies your device. However, because of how internet connections work, the IP address the connection comes from does reach the system that receives them (we do not save it → Section 6). We have also not added any systems for advertising, or any analytics tools that follow how each person plays (tracking and similar tools). Only the bug report form is different: to help us look into problems, it opens with information about your device (your OS, CPU, memory, and so on) already filled in. It may also include the last few digits of the Steam account IDs of the people you were playing with online (you decide whether to send it → Section 4-4).
2. What is saved on your device (not sent to us)
These things are saved inside your device: the Album of your drawings, your Draw-Along Collection records, your profile (display name and color), settings such as volume, videos you export (MP4/GIF), your list of blocked players, a log of how the game ran (used to look into problems), and copies of feedback you have sent. They are not sent to our servers. (The log records things such as the game starting, failed connections, and problems on screen. When it grows past a set size, the oldest entries are removed.) You can delete your Album and similar items with the delete features in the game. These records stay on your device even if you uninstall the game. If you want to delete all of them, delete the %APPDATA%\Drawaoke folder, and the Drawaoke folder in your "Pictures" folder, where drawings and videos you saved for sharing are kept (videos you exported to a location you chose stay in that location).
There is one exception: your Draw-Along Collection records (which prompts you played, how many times, and on what dates). So that you can pick up where you left off on another computer, these are also copied to Steam Cloud saves (Valve's servers). (If you have turned off cloud saves in your Steam settings, they are not copied. How they are handled on Valve's servers follows Valve's privacy policy, linked in Section 3.)
If you use the "Share to SNS" (social media) button and choose to post a video, a GIF, or a picture, the game first saves the drawing or video on your device, and then opens the X posting screen. You decide on the X screen whether to actually post it. If you choose "Keep as Steam screenshot", it is added to your Steam screenshots.
3. Connections when you play online
When you play online, the information the game needs (your brush strokes, chat messages, emotes, your profile's display name and color, the answers you type, and so on) reaches the devices of the players in the same room. This connection goes through Steam's networking system (Valve Corporation), and it may pass through Valve's servers. It does not pass through our servers, and we do not receive or save what is sent. For how Valve handles information, please see Valve's privacy policy.
When you play with people nearby over Wi-Fi (a LAN party), Steam is not used. The device of the person who opened the room handles the communication between the players. In this case too, nothing passes through our servers.
Please also keep these points in mind:
- Players in the same room can see your display name, your drawings, your chat, and your game results. If you leave your display name empty, your Steam name is used as your display name. Other players can also save that screen as a video (MP4/GIF) on their own device
- The room name, the number of players, the settings, the players' display names, the game's progress, and so on are also stored in Steam's room system (Valve's servers)
- If you make a room "Public", its name, number of players, and so on appear in the room list of other players who own the game (rooms are private by default). This list system also includes the Steam account ID of the person who opened the room, and the country the connection comes from, as decided by Steam (these are used for the feature that hides rooms opened by players you have blocked from the list, and for the feature that finds rooms in the same country). Private rooms are not shown in the list, but the room information itself is still stored in Steam's systems
- As a standard Steam feature, your friends may see your status (in the lobby, in a game, and so on). Inviting friends also uses Steam's systems as they are
- We recommend that you do not write your home address, real name, or other personal information in chat or in your display name
4. What we receive when you send feedback
When you send feedback in the game, we receive only the following (apart from this, because of how internet connections work, your IP address reaches the system that receives it → Section 6):
- The feedback you wrote (up to 200 characters)
- The name and ID of the song you were playing at the time
- The settings you had chosen at the time (game mode, song style, Song pace, lyrics display)
- Whether you started writing from the 👍 button or the 👎 button
- The language of the game's screens (Japanese or English)
- Whether you were playing online or on your own
- The game's version
- When it was sent (two times: the time on your device's clock, and the time we received it)
- The version number of the record format (an internal technical value)
Feedback reaches us without a name attached (anonymously). We do not link the feedback you send to your Steam account or to any records in the game.
Note: If you have written something in the feedback box and the box closes without you pressing "Send" (for example, because the song ends or you leave the room), what you wrote is still sent. (The game works this way so that feedback you wrote is not thrown away.) If you do not want to send it, please close the box with "Close without writing".
A request: Please do not write your name, email address, or any other personal information in your feedback. If you do, it will reach us. If we find that kind of information, we will delete it promptly.
4-2. What we receive when we count plays for each prompt
Each time you finish playing a song (except a single song chosen from the Draw-Along Collection, the tutorial, and replays in the Album), only the following reaches us, and it is added up as a total count for each prompt.
- The ID of the prompt you played (different versions, such as the English version, are counted together as one prompt)
- Which of "Nailed it", "That was hard", "👍", or "👎" you pressed for that prompt (if you pressed none, only the fact that you played it)
These are received by the same system as in Section 4 (our feedback service, run on Cloudflare, Inc.).
No record of each single play is kept. All we have is the totals — "this prompt was played this many times, Nailed it was pressed this many times, That was hard was pressed this many times" — and, for each prompt, the last date a count went up. We cannot tell who pressed what, or when. Because these are only totals, we have not set a time limit for keeping them. Your feedback text, your display name, and your drawings are not part of these counts. To stop large numbers of sends in a short time, we use the IP address the connection comes from only to count how many times it sends, the same way as in Section 6. We do not save it.
We use these counts only to review each prompt's difficulty level (Easy / Normal / Hard / Merciless).
4-3. Checking for the latest version and for news
The game asks our service for the latest version number and a short news message from the developer. It does this when you start the game, while the title screen is open (every 10 minutes), and when you open the online play screens.
- In this request, the game does not send us any information as content (it adds no name, no account, no device information, and nothing about what you played. It only asks)
- We use the number it receives only to tell you "An update is available" when your version is old
- These requests go through the same Cloudflare, Inc. system as in Section 6, so because of how internet connections work, that company can see the IP address the connection comes from. For these requests, we do not use the IP address even for counting, and we do not save it
- If the game cannot reach our service, it does nothing and you can keep playing as usual
4-4. The bug report form (Google Form)
When you press the "Report a bug" button in the game, our Google Form opens in your web browser. To help us look into the problem, the top box of the form opens with the following information already filled in:
- The game's version, your OS type and version, your CPU model, how much memory you have, your GPU's name, and your screen size
- The scene and settings at that moment (game mode, language, and so on), and how the connection was doing (whether it connected, what kind of failure happened, and so on. This may include the last few digits of the Steam account ID of the people you were playing with online)
You decide whether to send the form. Before sending, you can delete or change what is filled in. The form is set up not to collect email addresses. The answers you send are stored in Google LLC's (a US company) form system. We read them only to fix problems. For how Google handles information, please see Google's privacy policy.
5. Why we use your feedback, and the legal basis
We use the feedback you send only to improve the game. We do not use it for advertising or promotion, and we do not give or sell it to anyone else.
How we use the per-prompt counts and the bug report form is described in Sections 4-2 and 4-4.
(The legal basis: Sending feedback is your choice, and writing in the feedback box means you agree. So we handle it based on your consent. The bug report form is also handled based on your consent, because you decide whether to send it. The per-prompt counts are handled based on our legitimate interest in adjusting how hard each prompt is (we keep only the totals). Our use of IP addresses in Section 6 is based on our legitimate interest in protecting the service from abuse.)
6. How we handle IP addresses (Sections 4, 4-2, and 4-3)
To stop large numbers of sends in a short time, our feedback service (run on Cloudflare), which receives feedback and the counts (Sections 4 and 4-2), uses the IP address the connection comes from only to count "how many times it was sent in a short time." For the latest-version check (Section 4-3), the IP address is not used even for this counting.
- We only use it to count. We do not save it.
- We also do not record it together with your feedback (the only things we save are the items listed in Section 4).
- Feedback is received on a system provided by Cloudflare, Inc. (a US company), and connections may be handled on servers outside Japan. That company may keep records of how its service runs (access logs) according to its own rules. For details, please see Cloudflare's privacy policy.
7. Choosing not to send feedback
Sending feedback is your choice. If you close the box without writing anything, the way you play the game does not change at all.
8. How long we keep information
Feedback you send is deleted automatically 24 months after we receive it (we have set a time limit in the system that receives it). Feedback we have already used to improve the game may be deleted sooner. The per-prompt counts (Section 4-2) are totals that do not belong to anyone, so we have not set a time limit for them. Answers to the bug report form (Section 4-4) are deleted around 24 months after we receive them.
9. Your rights (access, correction, deletion, and more)
Depending on the laws where you live (such as the GDPR in the EU), you have the right to ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of your information, to ask us to limit how it is handled, to object, and so on (put simply, you can tell us "what you want done with your information"). This also includes asking to take back feedback you already sent (withdrawing your consent). Please send your request to the contact in Section 10. If you live in the EU, you also have the right to file a complaint with the supervisory authority in your country.
However, because feedback reaches us anonymously, we cannot tell which feedback came from whom, so we may not be able to answer a request like "please show me or delete what I sent." (We will not collect extra information to confirm who you are, because that would go against the approach of this policy.) If you tell us exactly what you sent, we will look for that feedback and delete it.
9-2. How we protect information
- We decide in advance which items we receive. Anything else is thrown away at the entrance of the system that receives it (Section 4)
- Feedback and the per-prompt counts can be read only when we sign in with our own account. There is no way to read them from outside
- Answers to the bug report form can be read only by our own accounts
- We do not save IP addresses (Section 6)
10. Contact
For questions, concerns, or complaints about this policy or how information is handled, please contact us here:
2P START
contact.2p.start@gmail.com
11. About children
The game is designed not to collect names, contact details, or similar information, no matter who is playing. This is the same when children play. Parents and guardians: please go over the following points with your child.
- Do not write personal information in your display name or chat when playing online (Section 3)
- In a public room, you play in the same room as people you do not know, and they can save the screen as a video (Section 3)
- If the feedback box closes while something is written in it, what was written still reaches us (Section 4)
12. Changes
We may change this policy when needed. If we change it, the new version applies from the time it is posted in the game and on the Steam store page. For important changes (for example, if we start receiving more information), we will also list what changed.
